
Kats XC finishes 2nd, 3rd at Aggieland Open

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Sam Houston State men's cross country team captured second while the women placed third at the Aggieland Open held Friday afternoon on the Dale Watts cross country course highlighted by three top-five finishes.
Sam Houston's Chris Speaks secured third in the 8K with a time of 25:09.59 followed closely behind by teammate Evan Arambula in fifth (25:25.98). Meanwhile, for the women, Ana Moreno secured a fifth-place finisher in the 5K at 18:27.35.
For Speaks, the result matched a career best and marked the second time in three competitions the senior secured the mark at Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Arambula's fifth-place finisher was his third in four events this fall. Likewise, Moreno also matched a career best with her result.
Senior Olivia Olguin took home 10th place with a time of 18:42.28 to record her second top-10 finish this fall. Jeffrey Moore secured 12th at 26:21.07 while Alex Hernandez took 14th (26:27.37) and Grant Buley came in 16th (26:38.11).
Hannah Tarrant notched a top-20 finish, taking 17th (19:36.61) while Briana McCall (20:25.82) and Lizzy Duenes (20:29.92) took 28th and 30th respectively. The men added three more top-30 results with Colton Stoker taking 20th (26:57.17), Cameron Theriot in 26th (27:34.07) and Robert Monticone in 28th (27:40.71).
Other Sam Houston competitors included Camry Grigsby in 38th (21.17.55), Holly Pierce in 41st (21:30.32) and Kassandra Luna finishing 51st (22:13.60) for the women. On the men's side, John Bounds notched a 32nd-place finisher (27:53.49) and Mark Martinez took 48th (31:17.00).

The Sam Houston men and women close out the cross country season on Oct. 28 with the Southland Conference Championship in Nacogdoches.
