HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Sam Houston State football is preparing for its homecoming game against Abilene Christian this Saturday, but part of the team took a couple hours out of the week to give back to community.
Twelve Bearkats went over to the Huntsville Boys and Girls club Monday afternoon to play sports outside with the kids.
The team played football outside with the kids, splitting up into two teams. The players served as coaches for the teams with a few filling in as all-time quarterback. They also ran three-person pickup basketball teams consisting of one football player with two children.
Head coach K.C. Keeler has stressed to his team that for them to be complete they had to give back to the community. Given how the players serve as role models in the Huntsville community, Keeler and the team say they do as much as they can to continue being positive influences in the kids' lives.
Kickoff for Saturday's game against the Wildcats is set for 3 p.m.
