Bearkat Champions Appreciation Day

Bearkat Champions Fund Appreciation Day will be held during Saturday's Sam Houston versus A&M-Corpus Christi basketball doubleheader at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Sam Houston season ticket holders and donors are invited to stop by the Bearkat Champions Lounge on the concourse level at the coliseum during the doubleheader. SHSU head coaches and administrators will be present.
The event will recognize the generous donors and season ticket holders whose support is vital to the ongoing success in Sam Houston's effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
The Bearkats' recent sweep of the Southland Conference men's and women's indoor track and field championships brings the number of league trophies Bearkat teams have hoisted to 14 in the past five years and 34 since 2000.
The Bearkat Champions Fund Appreciation event will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The Sam Houston women's basketball team tips off its game with the Islanders at 4:35 p.m. The men's game will follow at 7 p.m. Victories in both games are crucial to the Bearkats' Southland Conference Tournament seeding in Katy March 9-12.
“Sam Houston wants to say thank you to our season ticket holders and donors whose support helps build champions,” director of athletics Bobby Williams said. “To win conference and national championships, we need everyone's support through attending games and donations.”
Bearkat Champions who have donated $100 or more during the 2015-16 season who are not season ticket holders also will receive a pair of complimentary tickets to the doubleheader.
A special highlight of Saturday's men's/women's doubleheader will be a halftime recognition for the Bearkat Southland Indoor Championship track and field teams.
The amazing success for Sam Houston in the university's 17 intercollegiate sports have included five consecutive NCAA Division I Football Championship playoff berths (including four semifinal appearances), 23 Southland “Student-Athletes of the Year” award winners since 2007 and 14 NCAA championship berths in all sports since 2011.
This past fall, Sam Houston produced the highest number of Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll members with 115 Bearkats posting grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
