Robertson, Beadle All-Southland

Shernise Robertson and Angela Beadle, the two seniors who have led the Sam Houston women's basketball team to its first league post-season tournament appearance in three years, have been named to the 15-player 2016 All-Southland honor squad.
Robertson, a 5-6 senior guard from Cypress / Cy Falls High School, is a first team selection. Beadle, a 6-3 senior center from Austin / Bowie High School is a second team selection. The pair both are two-time All-Southland Conference performers for Sam Houston.
Robertson is one of only five players in Southland Conference women's basketball history to lead the league in scoring in consecutive seasons. She also stands as the only Sam Houston player to post more than 1,000 career points in two seasons.
Averaging 18.1 points per game this year, Robertson has led her team in scoring in 17 of the Bearkats' 28 contests. She has produced double figure point totals in 24 games during the 2016 season and 48 times in the past two seasons. Robertson came to Sam Houston from Tyler Junior College and led the league in scoring last year with a 19.7 average.
Robertson is 15 points away from moving up to No. 15 in all-time Sam Houston scoring. With 1,039 points, she trails Cathy Hooks who totaled 1,054 points from 1979 to 1981 for the Bearkats.
Beadle is a fifth-year senior who ranks as Sam Houston's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,303 points. She stands second in Bearkat women's career rebounding with 979 boards and is the program's all-time leader in block shots with 177.
For the 2016 season, Beadle leads the league in field goal accuracy (.549), stands second in rebounding (10.5 per game) and fifth in scoring (15.5 points). She has scored in double figures in 17 games and pulled down double figure rebounds 16 times.
Beadle was an All-Southland Conference selection in 2014. She is one of four Sam Houston players to have earned Southland All-Tournament post-season honors, earning her selection in 2013 after leading the Kats to the tournament finals.
“Shernise and Angela have been tremendous leaders for us this season,” Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. “They've certainly left their mark on the women's basketball program here. Everyone is excited about getting the tournament started Thursday.”
Sam Houston will face Nicholls at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leonard Merrell Center in Katy in the first round of the Southland women's post-season event. The winner of the first round game moves on to face No. 3 seed Stephen F. Austin in the Friday's quarterfinals.
