HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State continues its home stand with the third of four straight matchups, taking on Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 4 p.m. from Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Tickets, which include a seat to the women's and following men's game, are on sale for as $5. Lower reserved seats are priced between $10-15. Kids are admitted free to every Saturday game and students also receive free admission with a valid BearkatOne Card.
Saturday's matchup will be the 39th all-time between Sam Houston and Southeastern Louisiana with the Lions holding a 22-16 edge since the two began playing in 1984-85.
Sam Houston has won seven of the last eight meetings including four straight at Johnson Coliseum. The Bearkats avenged a two-point loss in Hammond, La., two years ago to defeat the Lions 80-56 last year in Huntsville.
Sam Houston has played five true freshmen this season who have combined to contribute 35 starts and 72 games played for a total of 1,426 minutes. The quintet has accounted for 357 of the Bearkats' 822 points this year (43.4 percent).
Sam Houston true freshmen have contributed more 3-pointers (47), minutes played (1,426), points (357) and rebounds (204) than any other team's first-year freshmen in the Southland.
Among Southland Conference competitors, Sam Houston ranks first in defensive rebounds per game (27.1) and fourth in rebounding offense (39.3). In league games, the Bearkats are tied for second in blocked shots per game (5.0).
Meanwhile, Southeastern Louisiana snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 69-58 victory over Northwestern State. Sophomore guard Ashailee Brailey and junior guard Taylin Underwood scored 21 points each to lead the Lions past their in-state rivals.
Southeastern is forcing 19.6 turnovers per game and is among the Southland leaders with 10.2 steals per contest. Underwood leads the Lady Lions with 17.8 points per game and is third in school history with 141 career three-point field goals.
