Baxter named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO – After helping the Sam Houston State Bearkats to their third straight victory on Saturday, senior Lydia Baxter was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on Monday, according to a release from league officials.
She is the first Bearkat to win a Southland Conference Player of the Week honor since Shernise Robertson did so in January of 2015.
Baxter turned in her second consecutive double-double on Saturday, going for 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench in a road win at Louisiana.
It was SHSU's second consecutive win on the road, marking the first time since the 2009-10 season that Sam Houston has won back-to-back true road games in non-conference play.
Baxter hit six of her nine shots from the field, while four of her eight boards came on the offensive end. She currently ranks ninth in the league with 6.6 rebounds per game after Saturday's win, which was the third time this season she has reached double figures in rebounds.
The Bearkats will be back in action on Friday when they go for their fourth straight win of the year in hosting Oral Roberts at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
