For our From the Vault feature, we are going to have 10 days of features heading into next week's Battle of the Piney Woods game as we take a look at 10 key moments in the history of the rivalry, which the Kats currently hold a seven game win streak over the Lumberjacks.
We will stick witht the 2012 game at NRG Stadium with another key play that was part of a 51-43 victory for the Bearkats.
After a goal-line stand by the Lumberjacks midway through the third quarter, the Bearkats trotted out the field goal unit for a short chip shot to extend the lead to 12. Instead of kicking though, quarterback Brian Bell, who was the holder on kicks, took the snap and ran it in for a score.
The touchdown was part of a 21-point third quarter, extending what was a 23-21 lead to 44-21.
"Our motto this year is finish," Bell said to reporters after the game. "That has to be our main focus. When we get ahead or get a lead, we have to finish. That's our main focus going into every game, trying to get up and finish the game."
This year's game will kickoff at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. To purchase tickets visit www.gobearkats.com/pineywoods
