HUNTSVILLE – For the second straight week the Sam Houston State Bearkats will have the chance to hand one of the Southland Conference leaders its first loss of the league season as they host Piney Woods rival Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The game is set to tip off at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum and can be watched on ESPN3 with Tom Franklin on the call and Matt Trent providing analysis. Fans can follow along via live stats, or get updates by following @BearkatsWBB on Twitter.
The game caps a four-game homestand for the Bearkats who are coming off a convincing 94-63 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, putting up its highest point total in SLC play since the 1994-95 season.
Jaylonn Walker pumped in a career-high 27 points in the win over the Lady Lions and Lydia Baxter turned in her eighth double-double of the year with 14 rebounds and a career-high 20 points of her own. Both of have helped the Kats put together one of the top offenses in the league, averaging 73.6 points per game, while turning its opponent's over more than 22 times per game on defense after forcing 31 SLU miscues on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, SFA has been one of the most consistent teams in the league under head coach Mark Kellogg, hitting better than half of their shots from the field as a team in SLC play while nailing nearly eight 3-point field goals per contest as well.
The Ladyjacks have won their last six road games overall, and ranks in the top five in most statistical categories in the SLC.
