WBB inks pair for 2020-21

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State women's basketball head coach Ravon Justice made a pair of additions to the 2020-21 roster on Wednesday, adding Shameka Tubbs and Kristine Ezimako on the first day of the spring signing period.

Shameka Tubbs • F • 5-11 • Tuscaloosa, Ala. • Northridge HS / Labette CC / Arkansas State
Justice On Tubbs: "Shameka is a person of high character who will add leadership and experience to our program. She is a talented player with great athleticism who can be a great contributor inside for us next year. Shameka has the ability to play both sides of the ball with high energy and will be a great fit for our system in addition to upholding our culture. We are excited to add Shameka to our program."

The Kats will have Tubbs in Huntsville for one year as a graduate transfer after most recently spending the 2019-20 season at Arkansas State. There she appeared in 28 games as a redshirt junior, following a 2018-19 season that saw her use her redshirt season.

Tubbs averaged 1.4 points and 2.0 rebounds, hitting 40.5 percent from the floor for the Red Wolves a year ago. She made her way to Jonesboro from Labette CC where she spent two years.

As a sophomore, the Tuscaloosa, Ala., native averaged 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She also led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in blocks, while also ranking fourth in assists and ninth in steals.

Tubbs helped Labette CC to a 23-6 overall record in 2017-18 and second place in their division. That year she was named the Labette Female Athlete of the Year and was a All-KJCCC second team selection.

She prepped at Northridge HS in Tuscaloosa, where she helped her team reach the Area 13 championship game in 2013.

Justice On Ezimako: "Kristine is a person of high character on and off the court. She has the ability to play multiple positions and be efficient. She's a big guard who can score it and rebound it extremely well. Kristine will be able to defend and apply defensively and we are excited to add Kristine to our program."

Ezimako closed out her two-year career with the Buccaneers with a bang, earning both all-region and all-conference honors as a sophomore. She led Blinn with 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in 2019-20, while also leading the team with 69 blocks, 59 steals and hitting 42.5 from 3-point range.

She averaged 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in a pair of games at the Region XIV Tournament, earning all-tournament honors in the process and helping Blinn cap a 25-7 season.

That came on the heels of a freshman season that saw her average 11.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Averaging 29 minutes per game, she hit 45.3 percent from the field 76 percent from the foul line, also finishing third on the team with 82 assists.

A product of Cy Creek HS, she led her prep squad to 34 wins and a berth in the Class 6A state semifinals in 2018. She scored 11 points in a win over Summer Creek HS in the regional finals to help the Cougars to the state tournament and as a senior averaged 9.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 blocks per game.
