Volleyball closes out winning weekend in Phoneix

PHOENIX, Ariz – The Sam Houston volleyball team closed out the Phoenix Pod on a high note, following up Friday night's win with a 3-0 sweep of Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon at GCU Arena.
The Kats (13-7, 6-2 WAC), who were playing their third match in as many days while Utah Valley (10-10, 5-4 WAC) was playing just its second match of the weekend, got another big match from its trio of pin hitters and hit no less than .250 in any of the three sets on their way to a .258 percentage for the match.
Ashley Lewis led the Kats with 12 kills and 11 digs, hitting .235 for the afternoon, reaching double figures for the sixth consecutive match. She was one of three Kats to pick up double-doubles in just three sets, joined by Breanne Chausse (11 kills, 10 digs) an Morgan Janda (38 assists, 11 digs).
Catherine Krieger added 11 kills as well, hitting .226, while Hannah Baker totaled 20 digs. McKenzie Morvant put together her second straight solid match with eight kills on 16 tries without an error and a team-high four blocks.
With the 2-1 weekend in Phoenix, the Kats will enter the upcoming week with the best record in the WAC with two matches scheduled for Johnson Coliseum, beginning Thursday against Lamar.
