HUNTSVILLE – Catherine Krieger had a dozen kills, but the Sam Houston Bearkats hit just .196 as a team for the match, falling to Evansville, 3-0, in the opening round of the NIVC on Thursday night at the Jones Convocation Center.
Krieger hit .323 for the match herself, but no other Bearkat (18-10) was able to put together more than Breanne Chausse's six kills. The Kats finished with eight blocks, four coming from McKenzie Morvant, while Hannah Baker had 19 kills and Morgan Janda had 22 assists.
Meanwhile, Evansville (20-11) got a match-high 21 kills from Giulia Cardona and another 18 from Alondra Vazquez, pacing the Aces on a night that saw them hit .304 for the match.
Evansville now moves on to face the winner of Chicago State and Bradley in the second round on Saturday night.
Meanwhile the Kats closed out their fourth consecutive winning season, picking up 70 total victories over that span.
