Leggett named SLC Player of the Week for fourth time

FRISCO – For the fourth time this season, Sam Houston junior Amber Leggett has been named the Southland Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday afternoon.

Leggett continued to show why she is arguably the league's top individual player this season with another big week for the Bearkats, leading SHSU to a pair of wins. She averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor for the week in what turned out to be two double-digit wins for the Kats.

She opened with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals and a pair of assists in a win over Houston Baptist. Three days later she followed that up with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in a win over Nicholls, avenging a loss earlier this season to the Colonels.

Leggett has now scored at least 20 points in five consecutive games and has done so seven times this season. Not only does she lead the league with 20.5 points per game, but she also ranks seventh in rebounds (7.1 rpg), ninth in FG% (.512), eighth in assists (2.9 apg), sixth in blocks (1.0 bpg) and third in steals (2.4 spg).

She and the Kats will go after their sixth win in their last seven games on Wednesday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana at the University Center. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff and will be aired on ESPN+.
