Bearkat hoops announces 2022-23 schedule

HUNTSVILLE — Head coach Jason Hooten has announced the Sam Houston men's basketball schedule for the 2022-23 season.

The Bearkats have a nonconference schedule full of quality opponents beginning with a game at Oklahoma on Nov. 7. Sam Houston will then host Southwestern Adventist on Nov. 10 and LeTourneau on Nov. 14.

For the first time, the Kats will travel to Salt Lake City to face Utah on Nov. 17. The Fort Myers Tip-off is next on the schedule as Sam Houston is set to play Northern Illinois in Florida on Nov. 22 and either Long Island or South Dakota on Nov. 23.

The Bearkats then head back west to play at Nevada on Nov. 28. A home game against Dallas Christian will be on Dec. 3 ahead of road games at Oklahoma State on Dec. 6, ULM on Dec. 14, Texas State on Dec. 17, a home contest against Arlington Baptist on Dec. 20 and back on the road at Missouri State on Dec. 22 and the Western Athletic Conference opener at Utah Valley on Dec. 29.

One New Year's Eve, Sam Houston will play New Mexico State in Las Cruces then finally return home to face Grand Canyon on Jan. 5. The Bearkats will host Tarleton on Jan. 7 before back-to-back road games at Southern Utah and Utah Tech.

Archrival Stephen F. Austin comes to Johnson Coliseum on Jan. 19 for the first of three consecutive home games which also includes UTRGV on Jan. 21 and Seattle on Jan. 26.

February begins with a road game at UTRGV on the first day of the month and former Southland Conference foe and new WAC addition UTA will host the Kats in Arlington on Feb. 4. Sam Houston goes back on the road to play at Abilene on Feb. 11 before the Mavericks come to Huntsville for a game on Feb. 15.

WAC play wraps up with a road game at Tarleton on Feb. 18, home games against California Baptist on Feb. 23 and Southern Utah on Feb. 25, a trip to SFA on March 1 and the regular season finale at home against Abilene Christian on March 3 ahead of the WAC Tournament that will be held in Las Vegas.
