ARLINGTON – The Sam Houston women's basketball team had a pair of players selected to the preseason all-WAC teams and the Bearkats were selected to finish sixth/seventh in the preseason polls, released by WAC officials on Monday afternoon.
Â
Senior Madelyn Batista was named to the preseason first team while newcomer Chyna Allen was a second team choice.

Batista was a WAC all-defensive team selection a year ago after averaging 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, a mark that was good for third in the WAC in 2021-22. She had eight double-doubles for the season and ranked in the top 10 in the league with 1.8 steals per game.
Â
Allen, meanwhile, is in her first season with the Kats after being named to the all-Southland Conference second team a year ago for Nicholls. She finished fourth in the SLC in scoring with 14.0 points per game, including a 30-point outburst vs UIW in the Southland Tournament.
Â
The WAC also put out its preseason polls with the Kats being selected seventh in the coaches poll and sixth in the media poll.
