BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Sam Houston women's golf team was in fourth place at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate hosted by Western Kentucky following round one play on Monday.
The Bearkats carded an 11-over 299 at the par-72, 6,212-yard The Club at Olde Stone course through the first 18 holes. Round two play was suspended due to darkness with nine teams still on the course and will resume Tuesday along with round three.
Sam Houston was just three strokes off the lead behind Kennesaw State and Campbell at 296 and one behind Louisville at the end of round one. Indiana (300), Charleston Southern (303), Norte Dame (305), Western Kentucky (306), Coastal Carolina (306), Middle Tennessee (309), Santa Clara (309), Cincinnati (311) and South Alabama (316) round out the rest of the field.
The Bearkats were in second at 12-over behind Louisville at 9-over when play was halted Monday.
Jenn David was leading the way for the Bearkats with a 1-over 73 which had her in a tie for seventh.
Zulaikah Nasser shot an opening round 2-over 74 to move into a tie for 12
th, and
Jennifer Herbst was tied for 18
th with a 3-over 75.
Viera Permata Rosada and
Leah Alberto both shot 5-over 77 to move into a tie for 30
th following first round play.
