LUBBOCK — The Sam Houston women's basketball team stayed within striking distance for most of the game, but Texas Tech was able to come away a 68-55 victory at United Supermarkets Arena on Tuesday.
Chyna Allen led the Bearkats (3-5) with 17 points and
Madelyn Batista chipped in 12 to go along with seven rebounds as Sam Houston played on the road for the third time in six days including two games in Florida.
Tierney Coleman added seven points and
Mikayla Woods had five and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Kats shot the ball well from behind the arc to grab a 12-10 lead in the opening quarter. Sam Houston finished 7 for 22 from 3-point range while holding the Lady Raiders (8-1) to 22 percent on 2 for 9 shooting.
Texas Tech won the turnover battle as the Bearkats committed 22 which resulted in 15 points for the Lady Raiders. Despite outrebounding Texas Tech 48-39, the Lady Raiders outscored Sam Houston 44-20 in the paint.
The Kats have a break before heading to Houston to battle Rice on Dec. 16 at 11:15 a.m.
