HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston men's head basketball coach Jason Hooten has added a junior college transfer from Arkansas for the 2022-23 season.
Â
Lamar Wilkerson, a 6-4 guard from Three Rivers Community College in Missouri has signed with the Bearkats. He will have three years of eligibility as an incoming sophomore after playing last season as a COVID-freshman.
Â
"We are excited about Lamar becoming a Bearkat," Hooten said. "Lamar was a guard we set our sights on early because of his size, versatility and ability to really score the basketball. His basketball IQ is off the charts and he's a very unselfish player.Â
Â
"Lamar has abilities that are still untapped, and we are looking forward to being the program that helps him reach those."
Â
Wilkerson earned honorable mention All-American honors at Three Rivers this past season. He averaged 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Â
He finished second in the Region XVI Player of the Year voting. Wilkerson shot 41 percent from 3-point range and 43 percent from the floor.
Â
The Ashdown, Arkansas native scored 20 or more points nine times, including a season-high 31 in a six-point win over Marshalltown on Nov. 13. He also averaged 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
