MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Sam Houston Bearkats held a lead over NC State after three sets, but the Wolfpack rallied back to take the final two sets and take down the Kats, 3-2, on the final day of the K-State Invitational at Bramlage Coliseum.
Â
The match was a grind for both teams with four of the five sets being decided by just two points, including each of the Kats' (1-2) wins coming in extra points.
Â
Three Bearkats turned in double-digit kill efforts, including freshmen Madison Dyer and Haley Heider. Dyer finished out a big weekend in her Bearkat debut, landing 18 kills with a .359 attack percentage and four blocks, while Heider scored 16 kills and had a dozen digs for her first career double-double.
Â
Catherine Krieger joined them with 15 kills and Hannah Baker had 28 digs. Avery Fowler and Analise Lucio each turned in double-doubles as well, while Madeline McKinney's 10 digs gave the Kats five players in double digits in that category.
Â
Sam Houston will return home and play at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum for the first time this season on Tuesday when it hosts Prairie View at 6:30 p.m. With one more victory, head coach Brenda Gray would reach 750 wins for her career.
