8/31/2022 10:00:00 AM | Athletics
HUNTSVILLE - In September, Sam Houston will induct seven new members to the Sam Houston Letterwinners Association Hall of Honor.
The 2022 class will be inducted on September 10th and the group will be recognized at the football game vs Northern Arizona that evening at Bowers Stadium.
The class will also be recognized as the feature of the Hall of Honor Reception on campus in the Orange Ballroom of the Lowman Student Center. The event will begin with a social welcoming for attendees beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the official program honoring the inductees scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served, with tickets available for $25 per person. Tickets for the event may be purchased by contacting the Sam Houston Ticket Office at (936)294-1729.
A fresh addition to this year's class is the Distinguished Service Award, an honor newly created to showcase an individual who has personally contributed to the Bearkat Athletics and its student-athletes in ways that are difficult to measure.
Sam Houston will honor Don Sanders as its initial recipient of the Award. Sanders has been an essential supporter of Bearkat Athletics for decades, with the home of Bearkat Baseball still bearing his name. An alumnus of Sam Houston, Sanders continues to give back to Bearkat Athletics and its student-athletes even to this day.
"Few people have had the impact on Sam Houston Athletics that Don Sanders has had, and it is hard to imagine where would be without his support," Sam Houston Director of Athletics Bobby Williams said. "It is fitting that he is the first recipient of the Distinguished Service Award because he has been there for us when we have had a need, and we cannot thank him enough for what he is done in helping get us to where we are today."
