PHOENIX — Sam Houston is back on the road to face Arizona State at the Desert Financial Arena on Wednesday evening.
The Bearkats enter the contest riding a three-game winning streak to get back above .500 in the win column. This will be the second time Sam Houston and the Sun Devils will be meeting on the basketball court as Arizona State came away with a 85-81 victory at home on Dec. 2, 1996.
The Kats are 0-2 against Power 5 programs this season following a 85-70 setback at Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Nov. 12 and a 70-67 loss at Ole Miss on Nov. 17.
Sam Houston went 2-1 against Power 5 schools last season. The Kats upset Oklahoma 52-51 in the opener last season in Norman, topped Utah 65-55 on Nov. 15, 2022 in Salt Lake City and lost to the Cowboys again in Stillwater on Dec. 6, 2022.
The last time out, Sam Houston knocked off Paul Quinn 78-61 on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum. Davon Barnes led the Bearkats with 19 points and six rebounds, and Damon Nicholas Jr. added 11 points.
Lamar Wilkerson scored 10 points against the Tigers as part of his monster week that saw him also score 25 in an 88-86 victory in overtime at Troy and 15 points in an 86-68 win against Grambling. He was named Conference USA Player of the Week, averaging 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in those three contests.
Tipoff for Wednesday's game against the Sun Devils is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST and will be shown on the PAC-12 Networks.
