
Kats drop Saturday matinee to UTA

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston could not capitalize on a late run in 76-65 loss to UT Arlington on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
Three Bearkats (5-4) reached double digits in scoring. Diana Rosenthal led the team with 15 points and Raanee Smith put up 14. Kassidy Dixon added 11 points and Kaylee Jefferson with nine.
Diarrah Sissoko finished with a career high seven rebounds. Raanee Smith and Kaylee Jefferson grabbed up seven rebounds a piece.
Late in the fourth quarter Rosenthal hit back-to-back threes to put the Kats within 10-points. She was then fouled on a 3-pointer and hit all three free throws to pull the Kats within eight.
With the Kats trialing by five at the half, the Mavericks (2-8) opened on an 11-0 run. Smith ending the run on a layup, but Sam Houston could not recover and trailed the rest of the way.
The Bearkats led the first quarter thanks to a free throw by Diana Rosenthal to put the Kats up 16-15. The Mavericks took off and did not slow down in the second quarter as the score was 35-30 going into the locker room.
The Bearkats will next be on road to face the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum on Monday at 7 p.m.
