UTA outlasts Bearkats in 2OT

ARLINGTON — Sam Houston had an opportunity to pick up a key road win against UT Arlington on Thursday but could not hold on to the lead in overtime in a 106-102 loss at the College Park Center.
The Bearkats dropped to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in Western Athletic Conference play after losing their second straight league contest.
Sam Houston had six players score in double figures with Sydnee Kemp leading the way with 20 points. Tierney Coleman and Chyna Allen each finished with 17, Raanee Smith had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, Mikayla Woods scored 14 and Kaylee Jefferson chipped in 10.
The Bearkats used a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to go up 75-72 after back-to-back 3-pointers by Allen and Jefferson with 5:32 on the clock. The Mavericks were able to force overtime by hitting two free throws with 19 seconds left in the quarter.
Sam Houston went on a 7-2 run to open the extra period and grabbed an 89-83 advantage with 1:49 left on a layup by Allen. UTA hit a free throw, but once again the Kats went up six on a free throw by Smith a minute later.
The Mavericks were able to rally to tie it to send the game to a second overtime and grabbed the lead right out of the gate that they never relinquished.
Sam Houston returns to Johnson Coliseum to host Tarleton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
