HOUSTON — The Sam Houston tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss against Rice on Saturday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Megan Basson narrowly lost at No. 1 singles to Federica Trevisan 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-3). Aaliyah Hohmann also dropped a close match, falling to Marte Lambrecht 6-5, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 6 singles.

Paula Cerda lost to Sydney Berlin 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2, and Sahithi Vutukuru was defeated by Maria Budin at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4.

Anastasia Khokhlova dropped her No. 4 single match to Saara Orav 6-2, 6-1, and Vianne Schwab fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.

The Owls won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 3.

The Bearkats will open Western Athletic Conference play on March 19 at 1 p.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
