RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Sam Houston picked up a key road win in impressive fashion by coming from behind for a 66-62 victory at California Baptist on Saturday.
Â
Madelyn Batista had another monster game for the Bearkats (10-10 overall, 7-4 WAC), posting her fourth double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Tierney Coleman led the team with 19 points, and Chyna Allen added 13.
Â
Sam Houston trailed 40-33 with 3:26 to go in the third quarter. Allen made a pair of free throws and Batista scored on a layup to make it a three-point game.
Â
After the Lancers (11-11, 7-4) pushed the lead back to five, Mikayla Eddins drilled a 3-pointer and Coleman hit a free throw and then converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Kats the lead at 43-42.
Â
The game was back and forth the rest of the way with the lead changing hands seven times until late in the fourth quarter.
Â
Coleman put Sam Houston up 61-57 with a layup with less than a minute left in the game. CBU had to start fouling, and Sydnee Kemp and Mikayla Woods combined for five free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Â
The Bearkats return home to host Grand Canyon on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
