
Kats fall to Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Sam Houston women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 66-51 to Kansas at Phog Allen Fieldhouse on Monday.Â
The Bearkat (2-1) defense held the Jayhawks (2-0) close in the first quarter, keeping them within an eight-point margin. Sam Houston defense forced turnovers that lead to eight points and held Kansas to 36 percent shooting.Â
In the third quarter, the Bearkats scored 21 points—nearly doubling their first-half total—to stay in contention. They tightened their defense in the fourth, holding Kansas scoreless for four and a half minutes to close within 10 points.Â
Deborah Ogayemi notched her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kaila Kelley led Sam Houston with 15 points, while Whitney Dunn contributed eight, including the Kats' only two 3-pointers of the game.Â
Sam Houston will face Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse on Sunday, with tipoff set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
