German named CUSA Golfer of the Week

DALLAS – Following his win at the Bentwater Intercollegiate, Josh German has been named the Conference USA Male Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Thursday.Â
German picked up his first win at the college-level on Tuesday when he took the title at the Bentwater Intercollegiate, helping Sam Houston claim its first team trophy of the 2023-24 season. Â
The junior from Mabank, Texas, shot 73-67-66 for the event at Bentwater Country Club, winning the individual race by two shots and helping the Kats to a 17-stroke victory as a team. Â
After shooting 73 to kick off the event in Round 1, he responded with a 67 in Round 2 and found himself just one shot off the lead with 18 holes to play. He immediately surged into the lead with a chip-in eagle on No. 1 to open Round 3 and never surrendered the lead, dropping two more shots with consecutive birdies on 7-8 and shooting 1-under on the back side to finish with a tournament-low round of 66.Â
German and the Bearkats will continue their spring season on Monday when they kick off the first two rounds of the Border Olympics, held annually at Laredo Country Club.
