HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston men's basketball team has added a transfer from the Big 12 for the 2024-25 season, head coach Chris Mudge announced Wednesday.
Â
Dorian Finister, a 6-5 guard from New Orleans, has signed with the Bearkats. The former three-star recruit played in 25 career games at Kansas State from 2022-24, including a redshirt season in 2022-23.
Â
"Dorian has a chance to be a well-rounded impact player here at Sam Houston," Mudge said. "He is tough, athletic, skilled and has been a winner his entire life. All he needs is an opportunity and he will shine. Off the court he is a great young man who will fit in our culture and community very well."
Â
Finister saw action in 19 games last season, averaging 12.7 minutes per game. He scored 2.8 points per game on 39.6 percent (21-of-53) shooting, including 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range, to go with 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.
Â
He scored a season-high six points against Central Arkansas, Central Florida and at West Virginia. He saw action in 12 Big 12 games, averaging 14.4 minutes per game while averaging 3.3 points on 40 percent shooting with 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Â
In high school, Finister was part of a highly successful G.W. Carver Collegiate Academy squad in New Orleans, which posted an 88-16 record and advanced to three consecutive LHSAAA Class 4A Final Fours (2020, 2021, 2022) during his playing career. The three-time all-state selection led the Rams to a 33-5 record and the Louisiana Class 4A State Championship in 2021-22 as he scored more than 1,300 career points in his 103-game career at Carver.
