JACKSONVILLE ALA. - The Sam Houston volleyball team jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Jax State Gamecocks but then fell in straight sets at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Â
The Bearkats (8-14, 0-9 CUSA) took the first set 25-14 by finishing it off with a five-point scoring run. The Kats hit .211 and led the match in blocks with a total of 11. Â

Rachelle Reed led the Bearkats in blocks with seven. Freshman Chloe Monson led the Kats in kills, reaching double digits with 13. Alongside her, Chelsea Butler finished with 11 kills. Â

The Kats continue their match up against the Gamecocks in game two of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Â
