DALLAS — Sam Houston freshman
Jacob Walker has been a spark coming off the bench this season and after a solid week, he was recognized by Conference USA for his play this past week.
Walker has been named the league's Freshman of the Week, CUSA officials announced on Monday. He averaged 15.0 as the Bearkats lost by 10 at undefeated Oklahoma State on Dec. 2 and a 12-point win at Texas Southern on Saturday.
Walker scored a career-high 17 points against the Cowboys. The true freshman was 3 for 6 from 3-point range, including a 3 and a pair of free throws for his own 5-0 run to pull Sam Houston within 72-70 with just over five minutes to go in the game.
He followed that with 13 points and five rebounds Saturday as the Kats topped TSU 82-70.
