BEAUMONT – Victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions earned the doubles point and
Nayuma Subba, Adi Venkatakrishnan and
Sara Sadadinovic each won their singles matches in straight sets to lead the Sam Houston women's tennis team to a 4-0 shut out of Lamar Sunday.
The victory upped the Bearkats season record to 4-3 and marked Sam Houston's first tennis dual match victory over the Cardinals since 2022. The pair were long time rivals in the Southland Conference.
"This is an exciting victory for us," head coach
Rob Hubbard said. "We've played some really tough teams – Rice, Texas A&M and UTSA – and the competition and how we've learned to fight has really helped our young team."
Venkatakrishnan and
Ella Fitcher defeated Arina Gudovskaya and Savannah Bijlsma 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles position.
Aaliyah Hohmann and Sadadinovic coupled for a 6-1 victory over Martina Alcaino/Emma Palus at No. 3.
In singles competition Subba defeated Arina Gudovskaya 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and Venkatakrishnan topped Martina Alcaino 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot. Sadadinovic knocked off. Emma Palus 6-1, 6-4 for the match clinching victory at No. 6.
