Kats take third at Aggie Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – The Sam Houston men's golf team finished tied for third with Louisiana in closing out the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club on Sunday.
Bearkats shot three-over par in the final round as they ended the day with +22 over 54 holes. Bret Gray had two birdies in the final round firing off 77-72-71 to be four over finishing seventh overall. Hugo Trommetter finished with +6 and placed 15th overall. Trommetter came in just behind him with 77-74-71 as he had two birdies and an eagle on the 8th hole, making that his second eagle in the tournament.
In the end, the hosts 19th-ranked Texas A&M took the team title, finishing +3 overall. The next closest team to the Aggies was 6th-ranked Oklahoma with +12.
Gene Chaikangwal came in just behind Trommetter with four birdies in the final round to finish in 18th with 75-73-75 (+7). Josh German turned in 71-82-74 finishing with two birdies in the final round placing 32rd overall. Sebastian May finished in 50th with 78-76-79 on his scorecard. Alex Malanga finished 66th as an individual firing off 80-84-77.
The Bearkats will be in action in two weeks at the CUSA Men's Golf Championship in Texarkana, Ark. The tournament will begin Monday, April 21, and last through Thursday, April 24.
