HUNTSVILLE —Sam Houston outlasted ULM in five sets Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum to close out the Bearkat Classic. Â

The Bearkats fell behind early, dropping the first two sets to ULM 25-21 and 25-16. Sam Houston responded with a 28-26 win in the third set and carried that momentum into a fourth-set victory. The decisive fifth set turned into a back-and-forth duel, with the Kats pulling out a 17-15 win to seal the match. Â

Freshman Chloe Monson led the Bearkats with 21 kills, marking another double-digit performance. Setter Avery Fowler recorded 33 assists, while Shaelin White contributed three service aces and a team-high 24 digs. Â

The Bearkats closed the tournament with an 8-5 record to place second overall. Sam Houston will stay home to open conference play against UTEP on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
