HANRAHAN, La. - The Sam Houston bowling team had a better day on the lanes but slipped in the standings at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane on Saturday.
Â
The Bearkats dropped to fifth place in total pins with 9,606 despite rolling 4,823 during day two, which was 40 pins better than their opening day total. Sam Houston went 2-3 in the traditional format Saturday and is now 7-3.
Â
Louisiana Tech continues to lead the event with 10,021 pins followed by North Carolina A&T (9,741), Alabama State (9,700) and Tulane (9,629). UAB is sixth with Emmauel, Jackson State, Florida A&M and Texas Southern rounding out the top 10.
Â
Miya Greene placed ninth in the individual portion of the competition with a 202.4 average with a high match of 208. Noey Sarntong placed 13th and Jessica Sillis was 14th with averages of 196.6 and 194.8, respectively.
"Day two of the Colonial Classic was a grind, and while we're still in a position to accomplish what we came here to do, it was a reminder that we are nowhere close to reaching our full potential, yet," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We had every opportunity today to right the ship, make the necessary adjustments, and take control of situations, but too often we got in our own way and struggled to get ahead.
"Sunday has to be about action, not just recognizing what needs to change. We have to be willing to make the adjustments, commit to them, and follow through when it matters most. We still have an opportunity to check important boxes and leave this tournament with what we came here to get, but that opportunity has to be earned. The response is what matters now. It's time to take ownership, clean up the details, and compete with the urgency, confidence, and discipline we know we're capable of bringing."
