HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston bowling squad defeated Grambling in a dual match Sunday at the Kat Klub.
Â
The two teams played a pair of Bake matches to open the event with the Bearkats taking command early, outscoring the Tigers 1,071-778. Grambling responded in the second set, edging Sam Houston 857-852 to even dual at 1-1.
Â
Sam Houston took control in the final match, sweeping all four games in the best-of format to secure the victory. The Bearkats opened with a narrow 209-201 win before extending their lead with victories of 204-174 and 203-167. Sam Houston completed the sweep with a 208-151 win in the fourth game.
Â
"We have to be able to adjust and understand whatever is thrown our way," head coach Brad Hagen said. "Even though the rotation changed, we still had a plan, an opportunity, and a priority to execute. It's great to come away with two of the three, but our execution in the set we lost was not up to our standards. When a pair sits for a while, execution is the difference between what could be and what could happen in a close match."
Â
The Bearkats' consistent scoring in the final set proved decisive, as they posted four consecutive games above 200 pins while holding Grambling to 201 pins or fewer in each game.
Â
Sam Houston will take a week off before heading to San Antonio to take part in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech at Bowlero Thousand Oaks.
Â
"We'll live and learn from it, but often, what matters most is how we respond," Hagen said. "This week is crucial as we prepare for our next two events. We have to stay focused on the process, continue to make adjustment and be intentional with our preparation. Time is valuable, and we need to make the most of every opportunity we have to get better."
