HANRAHAN, La. - The Sam Houston bowling team had a solid opening day to begin the season at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane on Friday.
Â
The Bearkats are currently in second place in total pins with 4,783 to trail Louisiana Tech (4,856). Both teams went 5-0 against the field in Baker Matches.
Â
Alabama State is third in total pins followed by Tulane, North Carolina A&T, UAB, Florida A&M, Emmanuel, Jackson State, Oklahoma Christian, Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Prairie View and Southern.
Â
The Bearkats picked up wins over Alabama State (1,122-928), UAB (865-856), Jackson State (920-842), Alabama A&M (949-721) and Emmanuel (927-790).
Â
"We're happy to walk away from day one of the Colonial Classic at 5-0, but we also understand there are things we need to clean up," head coach Brad Hagen said. "Our preparation window leading into this event was short, and while that's part of the reality, finding ways to adjust, get better on the fly, and continue to improve as the weekend unfolds will be crucial to our success.
Â
"At the end of the day, Ws are what matter most, but we can't become so comfortable with the results that we start believing everything is just going to work in our favor. We must stay committed to approaching every situation the right way, trusting our preparation, competing with confidence, and understanding that the right mindset and the right adjustments give us the best chance to keep winning."
Â
Day two will get under way on Saturday morning at Colonial Bowling Lanes.
