
Kats sit in tenth at Border Olympics

LAREDO – The Sam Houston men's golf team sits in tenth place heading into the final day of play at the Border Olympic at Laredo Country Club.
The Bearkats opened the tournament at +4 during the colder start to the day, sitting third overall before sliding down the leaderboard to +12 through the first 36 holes.
Jackson Hymer led the Kats through day one, shooting even par. Hymer recorded three birdies in the opening round to sit 2-under through the first 18 holes before adding birdies on the ninth and 16th holes in round two to finish the day at even par.
Alex Malanga posted two birdies on the back nine of round one to finish even and added three birdies in the second round to end the day at +1. Grayson Petru carded a 73 in the opening round with three birdies and followed with two birdies on the front nine in round two to finish at +2.
Sebastian May turned in rounds of 75 and 78 to sit at +11 with three birdies on the day. Caleb Lumpkin rebounded from an opening-round 80 with a 75 in the second round to finish at +13. Competing as an individual, Preston Hiller recorded rounds of 80 to finish the day at +18.
The final round of the Border Olympic tees off Tuesday at 1 p.m., with live scoring available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
