
Kats finish 12th in All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE – The Sam Houston men's golf team placed 12th at the All-American Invitational, held at the Golf Club of Houston.
The Bearkats closed with a final round of 2-over-par to finish the two-day tournament at +60 overall. Sam Houston finished ahead of ULM, UT Arlington, No. 2 Odessa and HCU, while coming within three strokes of Lamar and six of UTRGV.
Alex Malanga led the Bearkats with an eighth-place finish at +7 after rounds of 76-78-69. He fired a strong final round of 69, carding four birdies on the back nine and two on the front. Sebastian May finished 43rd at +17 with rounds of 83-78-72, highlighted by an eagle on the 13th hole to finish even in the final round.
No. 4 Arkansas claimed the team title at 18-over-par, followed by Eastern Michigan at +30 and Tarleton State at +35.
Grayson Petru recorded rounds of 79-82-73 to finish 49th at +18, including three birdies on the front nine of his final round. Jackson Hymer finished 57th at +20 with rounds of 80-80-76, adding three birdies in the final round. Caleb Lumpkin matched Hymer's final-round 76, finishing at +27 with rounds of 81-86-76.
The Bearkats return to action in two weeks in Carrollton, Texas, competing in the Maridoe Collegiate hosted by North Texas beginning Monday, March 30 at Maridoe Golf Club.
