DALLAS – Senior Nayuma Subba has been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, per a release from the league on Wednesday afternoon.Â
Subba turned in a perfect week for Sam Houston, leading the Bearkats to a 4-0 week with two wins at Tennessee Southern and victories at WKU and Middle Tennessee. It is the first 4-match win streak in dual-match play since 2021 for the Kats. Â
Subba went 3-0 at No. 1 singles play and 1-0 at No. 2, while also pairing with teammate Adi Venkatakrishnan for 4 victories at No. 1 doubles. She took down UTS No. 1 player Natalie Vegara in straight sets on March 10, following with a win at No. 2 over UTS' Sofi Rudea in straight sets. Â
She then downed WKU's Isabelle Einess (6-0, 6-0) and Middle Tennessee's Lena Peyer (7-6, 6-4) at No. 1 in the final 2 matches of the week, providing the match-clinching point in the win over the Blue Raiders. Â
Subba now stands at 10-4 in singles matches this year, including 9-4 at No. 1 and enters play this week riding a 9-match win streak in singles play.Â
The Bearkats return to action on their home court this week with matches vs both Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech. The Kats will host SFA on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and the Bulldogs on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in a match that was recently moved up from its original 1:00 p.m. start time.Â
All Bearkat women's tennis matches are held at the Chuck & Wanda Beckner Tennis Center and are free admission.Â
