Kats in eighth heading into final round of CUSA Championships

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Sam Houston men's golf team battled through the second round of the Conference USA Championships on Tuesday, sitting in eighth place at 4-over par at Texarkana Country Club.
The Bearkats hold a two-stroke edge over Delaware and lead Louisiana Tech by eight strokes. UTEP tops the leaderboard at 26-under par, while New Mexico State sits in second at 20-under.
Caleb Lumpkin paced Sam Houston and is tied for seventh place at 4-under par after carding a 71 in round two, following his opening-round 69. Lumpkin recorded four birdies on the day, with two on each nine.
Grayson Petru, Jackson Hymer and Alex Malanga each shot rounds of 73. Petru sits tied for 14th at 2-under par, highlighted by three birdies, including back-to-back to close the front nine. Hymer is tied for 33rd at 2-over par after totaling five birdies in round two to go along with four in the opening round, posting consistent rounds of 73. Malanga rebounded with a 73 after an opening-round 81 and sits tied for 51st at 10-over, highlighted by a birdie on hole 16.
Sebastian May rounds out the Bearkats' lineup in 55th place at 14-over par after posting back-to-back rounds of 79, including a birdie in Tuesday's round.
The final round of stroke play concludes Wednesday, with the top four teams advancing to match play on Thursday. Sam Houston is paired with Jacksonville State and will tee off beginning at 8 a.m. Live results are available on Clippd.
