DALLAS – Conference USA announced its postseason honors on Tuesday with Sam Houston's Anamaria Kurtiskashvili being named to the league's All-Freshman team.Â
It is the first such honor for the freshman from Tsibili, Georgia and the second for the Bearkats since joining CUSA for the 2024 dual-match season after Paula Cerda earned first team All-CUSA honors that year. Â
In her first year with the Bearkats, Kurtiskashvili put together an 11-7 overall dual-match record in the 2026 season, including 4-2 in CUSA play. She spent the bulk of her time at No. 2 singles where she racked up 10 of her victories including a pair of wins against WKU, Middle Tennessee and McNeese. Â
Her win against WKU's Emily Schut on the No. 2 court helped the Kats snag a 4-3 win over the Hilltoppers in the first round of the CUSA Tournament and she was just two points away from earning a straight-set singles win against top-seeded Louisiana Tech when her match was abandoned after the clinching point was achieved on another court. Â
Additionally, Kurtiskashvili picked up seven victories on the doubles court, helping her close the year with a solid 20.32 WTN. Â
Sam Houston finished the season at 9-13 overall, winning nine of its final 15 dual matches of the year and its first postseason victory since 2022.
