Kats finish second at Bayou City Collegiate

HOUSTON — Sam Houston men's golf finished second at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, finishing two strokes behind Rice at Westwood Golf Club.
The Bearkats were led by Alex Malanga, who finished tied for third at 8-under par, and Caleb Lumpkin, who placed seventh at 7-under.
Malanga carded rounds of 70-71-67, finishing the tournament with a bogey-free final round. The senior recorded five birdies in the final round to finish inside the top five.
Lumpkin posted rounds of 70-71-68 and finished 7-under par. He recorded six birdies in the final round to move into seventh place.
Grayson Petru finished tied for 16th at 2-under par after rounds of 71-72-71. He recorded three birdies in the final round.
Jaxson Henegar finished tied for 36th after carding rounds of 72-75-73. He opened the final round with an eagle on the first hole before adding a birdie on the second.
Brett Jones finished tied for 42nd after rounds of 75-76-71. He recorded two birdies in the final round, including birdies on holes 13 and 18. Jones also recorded an eagle on the 18th hole during the second round.
Ben Montreuil finished tied for 52nd after posting rounds of 74-78-72. He recorded birdies on the third and 18th holes in the final round.
Competing as individuals, Jackson Hymer finished tied for 52nd with rounds of 78-72-74. He recorded four birdies in the final round.
Preston Hiller finished 83rd after carding rounds of 78-82-80. He recorded a birdie on the fifth hole in the final round.
Play was suspended for nearly two and a half hours during the second round due to lightning. The field resumed play Tuesday morning to complete the second round before moving into the final round.
The Bearkats return to action Oct. 12 at the Moraine Intercollegiate in Kettering, Ohio. Miami (Ohio) will host the tournament at Moraine Country Club.
