Cody Stark joined the Sam Houston athletic department in the spring of 2019 after a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly two decades. A 2003 graduate of Sam Houston State University, he is a multi-award-winning criminal justice reporter and sports journalist who led a newsroom of accomplished reporters at one of Texas’s most highly honored community newspapers.

Throughout his journalism career, Stark earned national recognition as a leading capital punishment expert, frequently appearing on major media outlets across the United States and abroad to provide insight on complex true-crime issues. He concluded his long-term coverage of the death penalty in Texas in 2018, closing a notable chapter of true-crime reporting while shifting his focus toward back to collegiate athletics.
