Angelo State 24, Sam Houston 17

HUNTSVILLE - A fumble recovery at the 13-yard line set up Angelo State's winning touchdown and a Bearkat TD that would have tied the game with 1:34 to play was disallowed by a penalty as bad breaks added up to a season-opening loss for Sam Houston. Quarterback Chad Schramek was impressive, completing 10 of 14 passes. Red-shirt freshman Matt Dominguez caught six passes for 136 yards including two touchdown throws. Senior running back Bennie Wylie rushed 24 times for 116 yards.
