HUNTSVILLE -- Despite a hat trick by
Yoanna Garcia, the first in a Southland Conference game for a Bearkat player in Sam Houston's five years of women's
soccer, Central Arkansas edged the Kats 4-3 in a league match at Pritchett Field Sunday afternoon.
Garcia headed in a cornerkick from
Luana Miessa in the 28th minute to start the scoring.
Central Arkansas responded with three goals in four minutes, with Randi Condley scoring on a cornerkick in the 35th minute, Brittney Warren knocking
in a loose ball in the six yard box in the 37th minutes, and Cori Kaplinger tallying in the 38th minute.
Ashley Line scored the gamewinner for UCA two minutes into the second half on a pass from Kayla Wolff.
Garcia completed her hat trick in the 72nd minute on a cross from the right wing by
Alison Oakland.
Garcia had a fourth goal disallowed because of an offsides call in the final minute of the first half.
Central Arkansas goalkeeper Heather Joye made seven saves on Sam Houston States' 24 shots. The Bearkats'
Jenny Pence had three saves on UCA's 13
shots.
Garcia's hat trick was the third of her career. She scored four goals against Prairie View in 2006 and five against Texas Southern in 2004.
Central Arkansas ups its season mark to 7-7 and stands 4-2 in Southland action. Sam Houston State is 3-9 for the season and 1-4 in league action
