HUNTSVILLE ? Yoanna Garcia scored three minutes into the match and the Bearkats never looked back, knocking off Nicholls State 4-1 Friday night at Pritchett Field.
On the second goal of the night for the Bearkats, Garcia was involved again. On a cross into the box, Garcia found an open Raquel Bueno who finished it off in the 29th minute.
The Kats were on the board again 10 minutes later when Alison Oakland found the back of the net on a pass from Tofi Chavez.
After Nicholls State scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute, the Bearkats answered right back on a unassisted goal by Nastacha Polluck.
“The girls went out and were just having fun tonight,” head coach Marcia Oliveira said. “Everything was clicking for us right from the beginning and we just had a good night. Now we just need to go get one more.”
The win kept the postseason hopes alive for the Bearkats who now have 9 points on the season. They lead Texas State (8 points) for sixth place heading into the final game of the season on Sunday. A win at home against Southeastern Louisiana would guarantee the Bearkats a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2005 when they advance to the title game.
