DALLAS — Sam Houston junior Hannah Bolin has been recognized for her tremendous contributions to not only the Bearkat soccer team, but to the community she has called home for the past few years.
Bolin was one of 12 student-athletes to be a recipient of Conference USA's Fall Spirit of Service Award, the league announced on Friday. The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
Bolin, a standout midfielder from Richmond, is a member of Sam Houston's Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and serves on the SMC Executive Leadership Team. She has direct oversight to the Bearkat Buddies project, which is in conjunction with CUSA's Extra Yard for Teachers and the College Football Playoff Foundation grant implementation to support local teachers and children in Huntsville.
Through Bearkat Buddies, Bolin has provided a master plan to enhance the program and ensure its future by building relationships with teachers, counselors and administrators. Aside for providing school supplies through SAAC, the mentor program also offers guidance from student-athletes from each Bearkat sports program in different activities.
Bolin has excelled in the classroom since she arrived at Sam Houston. She has made the Dean's List each semester and is an Honor's College Student and Honor's College Scholarship Recipient.
She played a significant role in the soccer teams' successful fall season. The Bearkats went 5-2-1 and finished third in CUSA, the program's highest finish since joining the league three years ago, and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with Friday's honorees representing men's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball.
