NEWARK, Del. – Sam Houston earned its second consecutive conference shutout in its regular-season finale, battling Delaware to a scoreless draw on the road Saturday afternoon at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium. The result moved the Bearkats to 5-5-7 overall and 1-3-4 in conference play as they await their postseason fate.
Facing one of the conference's top teams, the Bearkats turned in a resilient defensive performance. Sam Houston withstood 18 shots and 12 corner kicks, with the back line and goalkeeper Hannah Stipp combining to keep the Blue Hens off the scoreboard for all 90 minutes.Â
The Bearkats generated one of their best opportunities in the opening half when Siera Herbert put a shot on target in the 40th minute. Stipp made three saves before halftime as the teams entered the break scoreless.Â
The pressure intensified in the second half, but Stipp continued to deliver in net, recording five saves over the final 45 minutes to preserve the clean sheet. Her eight-save performance matched a season high and helped the Bearkats secure their second straight conference shutout.
Sam Houston created chances of its own after halftime. Jasmine Dybala put a shot on frame in the 60th minute and narrowly missed another opportunity moments later, while Taylor Vance added a pair of attempts as the Bearkats searched for a late breakthrough. Dybala and Vance finished with two shots apiece to lead the Bearkat attack.
With conference tournament positioning still to be determined, the Bearkats will await the remaining league results to learn whether they have secured a berth in the Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship.
