Sam Houston falls to Houston by 1-0 score on road

HOUSTON - Islara Rodriguez scored 13 minutes into the second half to give the University of Houston a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Sam Houston State.
Rodriguez intercepted a Bearkat pass and moved past three defenders to fire a shot into the top left of the net. The Cougars produced 17 shots to eight for Sam Houston. Bearkat goalkeeper Jenny Pence was credited with eight saves.
The loss dropped the Bearkats to 0-3 for the 2007 season. The match was the first of the year for Houston.
Allison Oakland led Sam Houston's offense with three shots, one of which was saved by Cougar goalkeeper Shelby Scott. Luana Miessa had two shots and Tofi Chavez and Raquel Bueno had a shot apiece.
Sam Houston State returns home to Pritchett Field Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. non-conference match with Houston Baptist.
