Sam Houston State splits weekend matches with Southwestern Athletic Conference teams

Alison Oakland, Raquel Bueno, and Luanna Miessa each scored a goal to lead Sam Houston State to a 3-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Prairie View A&M Sunday afternoon at Prairie View.

Oakland scored in the 31st minute on a pass from Meissa.

Bueno and Miessa punched in unassisted goals in the 82nd and 88th minutes, respectively.

Bearkat freshman goalkeeper Jenny Pence picked up her second shutout of the 2007 season, making six saves on eight total Prairie View A&M shots.

The Bearkats took 31 shots. Panther goalkeeper Jessica Garcia was credited with 11 saves.

Sam Houston State upped its season mark to 2-4 for the season while Prairie View dropped to 1-5.

The Bearkats next match is Friday, Sept. 28, in Dallas against SMU. Sam Houston State will open Southland Conference women's soccer action on Friday Oct. 5 at Stephen F. Austin State.



HUNTSVILLE -- Obafemi Also scored on a pass from Chelsea Bonnville in the final minute of play to give Grambling a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Sam Houston State Friday.

Sam Houston State had a narrow 14-13 edge in shots but Grambling goalkeeper Cherie Silas produced a shutout with eight saves.

The Bearkats dropped to 1-4 on the year with the loss.

Sam Houston State will take on Prairie View on the road Sunday afternoon
