The 2007 season has started and the new Bearkat Alley will kick off this Saturday with a new and improved look when the Kats host Arkansas-Monticello at 6:00 p.m. Bearkat Alley will feature some of the same activities fans have loved and new activities that will hopefully bring more fans to the area.
Tailgating is and will continue to be the main feature of Bearkat Alley. It will now be on a reservation basis through Student Activities beginning with the September 8th game. Departments, student organizations, or individuals that would like a reserved space for the entire season inside Bearkat Alley will pay a reservation fee (starting at only $40). A general area will be provided on a first come/first serve basis for free. However, these spaces may also be reserved for a fee. This tiered format is based on desired locations and fees will vary accordingly.
The new activities added to Bearkat Alley include a new center area that will feature inflatable games, autographs with other Bearkat Athletic teams, pictures with Sammy Bearkat, face painting and other interactive games throughout the season. Vehicle traffic and vehicle parking have been eliminated from inside Bearkat Alley creating a safer, more fan-friendly environment for everyone.
The changes were initiated in response to high attendance at previous tailgates and increasing school enrollment. A need for security and more organization has also led to this reformatting. Alumni Relations, the Athletic Department and the Department of Student Activities have collaborated to make these improvements.
